Guam - The municipality of Barrigada is currently using the casino facility from the Liberation Carnival as part of this week's village fiesta activities.

Mayor June Blas tells KUAM that Governor Eddie Calvo did approve the village's request to operate activities including games of chance this month.

"Now, being the facility is in Tiyan, which it sits in Barrigada, so why not utilize it, and it's not a casino, it's more of a game of chance and that's utilized for our activity this weekend."

Games of chance include Texas Hold-Em, pusoy, poker, and beto beto. She says fiesta activities will not include cockfighting as it is currently molting season.

The use of the facility started on august 8 and will commence Monday August 19.

Mayor Blas reiterates that her office and the Municipal Planning Council monitor all of the activities taking place at the Tiyan facility.

The funds are used to defray costs for community events such as helping send the village's sports teams off-island.
