Guam - Year after year the Department of Education scrambles to fill classroom teacher vacancies and this year is no different.
DOE superintendent Jon Fernandez says to-date, DOE has 57 vacancies. Thirty of those he says are referrals or applicants who've been recommended by school principals for hiring.
With a little over a week until the start of classes, Fernandez says DOE is working with teachers in the middle and high schools to cover classes during their prep periods.
Other options include increasing student load, although he admits it's not ideal to have more than 30 students per classroom.
