Guam - Just as the affect of sequestration impacts companies and
employees under the service contract act here on island, the local chapter of
the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers has put out notice that the
work between the union and companies such as DZSP21 and Chugach has greatly
reduced the impact to the employees to date.
However, according to IBEW local business representative Kenneth
Laguana, not everyone was spared. He adds while the union has worked to
laterally transfer tradesmen who qualify for other openings, there is just not
enough jobs left from the cuts to retain some employees.
He further adds the last day for some affected employees on Andersen
Air Force Base was last Friday. Laguana was hoping to conduct interviews today
with those possibly laid off to see if the contract bargaining agreement under
the union was properly followed.
