Budget requests presented for UOG, GCC

by Krystal Paco

Guam - Budget oversight hearing continued over at the Legislature today. First up to bat was the University of Guam with their Fiscal Year 2014 request for $27.1 million to meet general operation needs.

UOG president Dr. Robert Underwood noted an additional $800,000 not included in that amount would be needed to payout merit bonuses meanwhile, the Guam Commnity College presented their close to $19.4 million request. GCC president Mary Okada pleaded to lawmakers to authorize the full amount as year after year GCC continues to deliver on its commitments, but is rewarded with less funding.

She says the Mangilao school is now working to help the growing student population complete their degree and certifications in a shorter amount of time, but need the faculty and staff to do so.
