Guam - DOE superintendent Jon Fernandez wants all DOE schools to be accredited.
This follows his recent meeting as a pacific representative for the Western Association of Schools and Colleges held in San Francisco last month. "Right now we have all of our secondary schools and about a handful of elementary schools and I think we could do a great job building up our capacity here if we pushed more of our elementary schools through the process. I think having every school accredited would be a wonderful goal for the district," he said.
To date, 20 of the 40 public schools on island are accredited.
He adds Hawaii is also in the process of getting all its elementary schools accredited in the next five years and Guam can do the same. WASC staff are expected to visit the island later this month to discuss how Guam can approach this.
