by Ken Quintanilla

Guam - It's considered a beginning of a new chapter in the Guam Power Authority's history as Governor Eddie Calvo signed a deed of conveyance formalizing an agreement to transfer 15 acres of Government of Guam property from the Chamorro Land Trust Commission to GPA.

The property will house the Gloria Nelson GPA and Guam Waterworks Authority Multipurpose Facility in mangilao. GPA general manager Joaquin Flores said, "It's provides a commercial public entity where commercial development could probably promulgate in the near future. It will increase the value of properties around the area and make the back road to Andersen, the Fidian area a better development potential."

The new building will be located along Route 15 and will be constructed three stories high and 16,000 square feet designed to be LEED certified. The overall cost will be $35 million and is expected to be completed within 18 months or in early 2015. A groundbreaking ceremony for the new building will be this Wednesday.
