GovGuam honors biggest winners

GUAM - It was an afternoon of celebration for the Department of Public Works and partnering GovGuam agencies who worked for the last six-weeks to drop the pounds in line with Governor Eddie Calvo's worksite wellness initiative.

At today's biggest winner awards, male division winner Guam Fire Department's Frank Matanane says he may have lost a whopping 31 pounds, but he's won a handle on his health and well being. He says he was motivated by his 16 year-old daughter Tyler and son Brock.

"Just trying to make a lifestyle change. I have a three-year-old son now gotta be around for them for the long-term" Matanane mused.

For female division winner DPW's Liz Barcinas, breaking the sweat and dropping 18 pounds was easy in her worksite wellness programs that included body-combat, yoga pilates, and zumba weekly.

"As I exercised, it just fell into place. You want to watch what you eat because it gets harder to workout and it just fell in place and the next time I see my doctor, my doctor will be really proud of me" Barcinas expressed happily.

A total of 53 GovGuam employees from DPW, GFD, Guam Energy Office, Public Health, and the Department of Administration participated with most losing at least five pounds.
