Guam - Governor Eddie Calvo has proclaimed the island in a state of mourning in honor of Private First Class Mariano Raymundo.

Raymundo died recently while serving our country in Afghanistan. 21-year old Raymundo was born on Guam and is originally from the village of Tamuning.  Raymundo moved to Texas several years ago and joined the Army in 2011. He was assigned to the 210th Brigade Support Battalion 2nd Brigade Team 10th Mountain Division based out of Fort Drum, New York.

Governor Calvo says Raymundo defined what it is to be a soldier. "He sacrificed everything he had with courage and valor. Let us face each challenge with bravery and honor so that the island he loved can be the paradise he fought for," Calvo said. "He was strong in the face of an enemy that has terrorized billions of people. Let us give strength to those he loved and stood up for."

Governor Calvo orders all flags to be flown at half staff in his honor until the day of his interment.
