Guam - The U.S. Department of the Interior has approved Governor Eddie Calvo's request to use $6 million in capital improvement project grants.

Here's a breakdown of how the governor plans to use that funding:

- Two million dollars will be used by the department of public works to purchase 12 school buses which includes preventative maintenance costs.

- DPW will receive an additional 2.5 million to purchase heavy equipment and to make structural repairs to delapidated buildings.

- One million dollars will go to the Department of Parks and Rec for restroom repairs at 24 public parks spread out through the island. This includes painting, plumbing and electrical work as well a-d-a compliance moderniations.

- And finally a half million will go to the Mayors Council of Guam to make renovations to community facilities. Each village will receive $25,000 each to make repairs and renovations to their gyms, community centers, baseball field and parks.
