Guam - Members of the U.S. Coast Guard, GPD Marine Patrol, GFD Search and Rescue and visiting NASBLA team gathered in Adelup to witness the proclamation of May 18-23 as Safe Boating Week.
Commander of the USCG Captain Casey White said, "What you see around the table we make up the majority of the responders when we have people that get into distress whether it is from a boating safety situation or even a broader water safety situation the one piece that is missing is the actual boater or the person that is within the water."
Safe Boating Week is geared to educating residents on how to avoid injuries and enjoy their time in the waters by following water safety rules such as wearing a life vest.
Guam High School and surrounding homes at Naval Hospital have been evacuated after a bomb threat is called in Thursday afternoon. The threat specifically targeted the school. GPD and Navy police are sweeping the area with K-9 units. The Naval Base Guam Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit is standing by in the event anything is found. Guam Homeland Security officials say all measures are being taken to ensure the safety of the public and first responders involved.More >>
