Guam - The Guam Table Tennis Federation is holding a workshop for
coaches to get them certified in order to coach in public schools. Oceania
Development Officer Michael Brown is here on island to help conduct the
training this Thursday and Friday at the Korean Sport Center in Ordot located
right before the entrance to the Leo Palace resort.
Michael Brown, Oceania Table Tennis Federation Development
Officer, said, "During this visit the Guam Table Tennis Federation is
looking to introduce Table Tennis in the elementary schools and we will be
hosting a coaching course this Thursday and Friday to try and introduce some
teachers into coaching table tennis to the beginners and school students. Table
tennis is a very skillful sport so the earlier you do pick it up the longer you
have to better your skills so there for we look to try and target the 8 to 10
year olds to try and get them into the sport as soon as possible and start them
off to a healthy program for the rest of their lives as well. So the Guam Table
Tennis Federation has worked really hard to set up a good infrastructure in
regards to having tables, bats, nets and all the equipment for the students.
Now we are trying to work on the promotions to get as many kids involved as
possible so there for it's targeting the school level students."
