Guam - The 2013 Foreign Labor Compliance Conference kicked off
this morning. Hosted by the Guam Department of Labor's Processing and Certification
Division, the yearly conference is necessary for companies who employ H-2b
workers in Guam and is part of DOL's outreach efforts to educate employers on
rules and regulations governing the H-2b program.
Administrator Greg Massey says he hopes everyone becomes more
knowledgeable, telling KUAM News, "We give them the rules in writing but
not everybody is good at reading rules and understanding them so every year we
have this conference where it's almost like a training where we give it to them
verbally and then we have these subject matter experts come in and answer
questions."
Massey adds this year is different not only because it's a two-day
conference but that it focuses on different subject matters such as human
trafficking, new workforce housing rules and I-9 worker employment eligibility requirements.
The conference continues tomorrow at the holiday resort with discussion on the
buildup and visa and fraud prevention along with a roundtable with local and
federal partners.
