Guam - The Pepsi Warriors will look to avenge their championship game loss to the defending champs Cars Plus Rams this Saturday when the two teams kick off this year's MFL season. The Warriors will rely on their veterans to lead the team despite not having the numbers they had last season.
Loring Cruz, Warriors head coach, said, "We have been having problems getting guys out and like I said if we had everybody coming back from last season I'm very optimistic that we can go back to the championship game and possibly win it. Well I know that we have our 2 backs, Hosea and Double D plus our quarterback Paul Unger is back along with Danny Manibusan. We have a good backfield and our line if they all come back we will have one of the biggest and strongest lines in the league and that was our bread and butter last year our running game and hopefully we will be able to do it again this year."
Starting quarterback Manibusan will take the snaps under center behind a big line and several key weapons on offense. He told KUAM Sports, "It's pretty balanced you know, our backfield is a good core. Receivers we have Sandy and Alex back and they are going to be a key factor for opening up the run for us. We have Hosea and Double D, guys who have played in the league for a while so it's just fine-tuning. Offense we have to gel together and hopefully we make it to the big show and put that nail in the coffin."
Defensively the Warriors will have to limit the amount of time Rams quarterback Will Williams has to pass and keep him from getting outside the pocket.
Wideout and cornerback Sandy Fejeran said, "Basically we are going to have to keep Will in check. That guy is real dangerous when he starts to scramble and he kills mostly everybody when he starts to use his legs and most guys get open that way with that team. So I'm looking forward to it, it was a tough game last year and wish we could have came out with a win in that one but we are going to do something's different this year. New DB'S with Ryan and them holding down the defensive line and then try to stop that offensive attack that they have. Not sure what they have on defense but we are really looking forward to that first game."
