Guam - The Department of
Public Works continues its efforts to remediate 75 of the island's sidewalks to
bring them into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. The Department of Public Works entered into a
settlement agreement with Roland Taimanglo who filed the lawsuit against the
government back in 2001 for violations of the ADA.
As a result of the agreement, Public Works agreed to fix many of
the island's sidewalks and bring them into compliance with ADA standards. To date, DPW has completed 49 out of the
original 75 disputes sites using grant money from the housing and urban
development agency and some with local funding.
DPW has until November 15, 2019 to complete the remediation at sidewalks
along Marine Corps Drive
and on other major thoroughfares including Route 16, Airport Road and Governor Carlos Camacho Road.
