Guam - With his State of Education
Address complete, Department of Education superintendent Jon Fernandez is now
rolling up his sleeves to improve the Government of Guam's largest agency. He
says contract negotiations may be more successful now that he serves as the
voice for the island's teachers.
"The board will have to take the
lead on that. I'm just kind of here to advise and to let them know what my
priorities are," Fernandez said. "I just set open lines of communication and
make sure that I know if there are issues that affect our teachers. Our
teachers matter they're going to be the key to our success."
Fernandez adds he will also work
more with the Governor's Education Task Force and their priority to renovate
Untalan Middle School so the wildcats can return to their Barrigada home by
2014.
KUAM-TV will rebroadcast Fernandez's
State of Education Address on Monday, Wednesday and Friday on MCV Local 2 at
7:30 in the evening, and Saturday and Sunday at 8:30pm.
