Guam - It was something
requested by the Committee to Keep Guam Good and now Senator Judi Guthertz has
introduced: Bill 532 known as the Initiative Reform and Transparency Act of
2012. Guthertz says the measure, if
passed, would ensure that voters "won't be left in the dark" about
those who are backing future initiatives.
Bill 532 will require the Guam Election Commission to require full
public disclosure from those who support or put forward an initiative in the
future by requiring them to file financial disclosure reports with the GEC. The measure would also require that
proponents submit a full set of police and local and federal court
clearances. Senator Guthertz stated,
"We're going to spare the voters in the future since i think many of those
who want for profit gambling allowed don't want that fact publicized. They had
better be ready for the transparency that we're going to bring to bear on their
efforts."
Just last week island voters opposed the for profit bingo
initiative that had been introduced by Guam Japan Friendship Village. The measure was shot down by more than 65% of
those who voted in the general election.
