Guam - It took about two hours for the Guam Election Commission and volunteers to complete the hand counting of ballots for the mayoral race in Asan/ Maina and the vice-mayoral race in Agat this afternoon. The commission decided to recount the ballots for precincts 2(Asan/Maina) and 4A and 4B(Agat), as the final numbers came close. But the
final outcome proved no change to the election results for those races. In Asan/ Maina, Joana Blas will be the new mayor with a total of 293 votes tallied today, which is one vote more than she had on election night. Her challenger Vincent Babauta also gained one vote from today's hand count bringing his final number of votes to 277. As
for the Agat vice-mayoral race, incumbent Agustin Quintanilla will retain his position. Quintanilla's votes from percent 4A remained at 245, while the number out of precinct 4B dropped by one vote totaling 238. His challenger Derick Hills gained one vote out of precinct 4A totaling 201 votes, while he gained two additional votes from precinct
4B totaling 244.

The GEC also completed tabulating the missing 147 non-partisan ballots from Asan/ Maina that were located in GEC's supply room. The commission will spend the week addressing about a dozen election complaints filed with their office, and meet this Thursday at 5:29pm to clear up other election administrative issues. The GEC will certify
the election results during its next regular meeting on November 19 at 5:26pm.
