Guam - The parties in the ongoing
tax refund case have until the end of this week to submit a proposed permanent
injunction that would spell out timelines for the government to pay out tax
refunds every year and penalties if they fail to comply. Attorneys for the plaintiffs and the
government as well as members of the governor's fiscal team participated in several
settlement conferences with Magistrate Judge Joaquin Manibusan in hopes to work
out a compromise.
The court extended the deadline to
submit the proposed injunction in hopes to parties would be able to work out
their differences, which we understand dealt mostly with the time periods for the
government to pay out the refunds. The
government wanted one year while the plaintiffs were pushing for six
months.
The deadline to submit the
injunction is Friday. If the parties
can't agree, the government will have to submit their objections by then as
well.
