Guam - Dozens of family
members and friends welcomed the USS Key West on Naval Base Guam this
afternoon. The Los Angeles Class attack submarine arrived to Guam from its
previous port in Pearl Harbor. Joint Region
Marianas Commander Rear Admiral Tilghman Payne gave the welcoming remarks during
today's ceremony.
The submarine's deployment here allows freedom of action,
regional, engagement, crisis response and deterrence while helping to fulfill
commitments to U.S.
allies and partners to protect our nation's security. The USS Key West is replacing
the USS Buffalo, which is finalizing its transition from Guam to Hawaii by early next
year.
