Guam - Next week, people across the nation will be celebrating a day to educate, to motivate and make recycling bigger and better. For the first time, Guam will join the nation on November 15 to celebrate America Recycles Day, and according to Guam Environmental Protection Agency spokesperson Tammy Jo Anderson Taft, they intend to celebrate in style.
"And so we've been doing outreaches at schools with some of the mayors and some of the senators and we're really pushing to educate people about what you can recycle on Guam and some the ways that you can recycle on Guam," she said.
And while some recycling initiatives take more effort than others, there are many simple ideas as well. "For example, composting is a version of recycling - and so if you're cooking and you're using fresh vegetables and you have the cuttings from them you can recycle that in your compost pile," Taft added.
And in preparing for next week's activities, the Guam EPA will be updating its recycling guide with all the business names and numbers you need to know. Taft added, "Using the recycling guide is one of the easiest ways to recycle, because maybe people don't know how many things you can recycle here like metals, aluminum and plastic and glass and cardboard and all of these things can be recycled on Guam."
