Guam - This years IIAAG
girls high school volleyball championship game is set between the George
Washington Geckos and Southern High Dolphins. The two teams will meet this
Friday at 7:00 pm at the Okkodo Gym. Last night the Southern High Dolphins
defeated the J.F.K Islanders in the first of two semi-final games played at the
Okkodo Gym. The Dolphins defeated the Islanders in 3 sets 25-15, 21-25, 25-16.
J.F.K looked to turn their season around after previously upsetting the Academy
Cougars who held on to the top spot heading into their contest against the
Dolphins. The Islanders didn't have an answer for the Dolphins aggressive play
at the net and couldn't bounce back after trailing by double digits early in
the match. Southern kept the pressure on J.F.K forcing them to play catch up
ball the entire night. In the end the Dolphins secured the win and their way
into the title game.
The George Washington Geckos took 2 sets to advance to the
championship game after beating the Simon Sanchez Sharks 25-21, 25-20. Both
teams had their fair of rallies in the two sets with G.W making a late run in
the first set to take the 1-0 lead in the contest. The Geckos kept their
composure in the second set as the Sharks jumped out to an early lead and hung
in there as the set came down to the final points. Errors on the Sanchez side
allowed the Geckos to make a comeback and eventually take the 2 set win.
Action starts at 5:30 pm this Friday at the Okkodo Gym when the
Islanders and Sharks take to the court for the 3rd place game, followed by the
championship game between the Geckos and Dolphins at 7:00 pm.
