Maeda to be awarded $2.4M contract

by Mindy Aguon

Guam - Maeda Pacific Corporation will be awarded a $2.4 million contract to construct the Harmon Residential Transfer Station.  Federal receiver Gershman, Brickner and Bratton made the announcement of the intent to award the contract to Maeda today.

The new transfer station, which is located in the Harmon Industrial Park at the Guam Solid Waste Authority (GSWA) compound, will replace the Residential Transfer Station that closed when the Ordot Dump stopped accepting trash last year.  Once completed the new facility will augment existing facilities at Dededo, Agat, and Malojloj. The attached figure shows the layout of the new transfer station.

GBB says the Harmon transfer station will be able to receive residential municipal solid waste using residential trash compactors and a bulk waste drop-off location. It will also provide a new building as a permanent drop-off location for the island's household hazardous waste.

Construction is slated to begin later this year and should be completed in just under one year.
