Guam - The Guam Veterans Affairs Office is now equipped with $3.9 million in grant money for the expansion of Veterans Cemetery in Piti and the replacement of the cemetery fence. The award comes from the National Cemetery Association along with an additional $175,000 of funding for operation and maintenance of the veterans cemetery.
Guam Veterans Affairs Office director John Unpingco says, "We are really looking forward to working with the national cemetery association. There is no reason why the cemetery should not be a showcase for the final resting place of our veterans. Guam's veterans truly have earned it and they deserve the very best".
The grant to expand the cemetery will ensure that burials can continue for another 20 years with the construction of more burial crypts. The money will also be used for a rainwater catchment and watering system.
