Guam - A Santa Rita senior center recreational leader was arrested for allegedly stealing thousands of dollars in bingo proceeds from the center. 44 year old Claire Santos Cruz was arrested on charges of theft of property held in trust as a 2nd degree felony after more than $5,000 was reported missing from the account. According to court documents, Cruz is in charge of tracking the bingo proceeds, storing them in a safe at the senior center and depositing the money into a bank account designated for the bingo profits. Documents state, Cruz told authorities the alleged missing funds were collected back in August, and at the time of being questioned about the funds she was in the process of depositing more than $2,000 into the bingo bank account. Cruz also told police she took just over $3,000 of the bingo proceeds in a bag to her residence which she placed in a bedroom drawer. Documents add she took the money to work the next day, and placed it in an unsecured desk. Cruz denied taking any of the money for personal use. She was booked and confined.
