Guam - The Home of the Sharks celebrate banned books week. Simon Sanchez High School librarian Sudi Napalan says the school was awarded a $1,000 grant to support titles we've grown to love from the Harry Potter series to John Steinback books, which are banned stateside due to inappropriate content.

Napalan says students are frequenting the library more now that they can check out these books, telling KUAM News, "We need to practice our intellectual freedom and it's really important that the kids get the opportunity to see what we have out here the resources because these books like you said, you grew up reading them and so it shouldn't be denied to the kids nowadays to be able to read these books."

A wave was held earlier this afternoon at Micronesia Mall for the cause. Guest readers will also be reading selections to students in the library throughout the week.
