Guam - The Department of Education will need more of their reserve to make their $6 million payroll Friday. At last week's Education Finance Supervisory Commission meeting, DOE deputy superintendent of finance and administrative services Taling Taitano reported that despite Governor Eddie Calvo's 15% directive, DOE anticipates a total release of $26 million of their $30 million reserve to make payroll and pay utilities.
Taitano says DOE is looking to request that the balance be used to pay prior expenditures and encumbrances. Taitano adds there has been no word on whether DOE will pay increments with the balance.
More updates will be provided by superintendent Jon Fernandez at Wednesday's Guam Education Board meeting, set for 8:30 at Harry S. Truman Elementary School in Santa Rita.
