Guam - The Guam Election Commission continues to review the
petitions and verify thousands of signatures for the Guam-Japan
Friendship Village's
initiative to open a for-profit bingo at the Guam Greyhound
Park. According to GEC executive
director Maria Pangelinan, although it's a rather intensive process, her staff has
verified about 1,800 signatures so far.
"The Commission again determines that, we need to verify that
they have 4,713 registered voters who signed the petition and after we do that
then the next step begins," said Pangelinan.
Meanwhile, the ballots are at the printer and although GEC
reported not having enough ballotstock, Pangelinan says she is prioritizing the
over 36 Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act ballots, which were
sent out today. She adds BBMR has informed her that some resolution should come
this week regarding the $74,000 debt it owes from the 2008 election.
