Guam - Governor Eddie Calvo reacted to radio personality Howard
Stern's reference to Guam on this week's episode of America's Got Talent. After one of
the groups performed, Stern commented that he liked the performance but felt
that while in America they get bored easily and if it was in Guam, they would have
won the show already saying, "On Guam, they don't have many exciting acts,
but here in America, they want different, they want new, they want
unique."
Calvo said, "Whether it's in sports, in dancing or its other
types of arts, with that I take it with a grain of salt. It's like you almost
feel sorry for a person that ignorant, and you just keep on continuing to shine
as we've always done."
He adds ironically, these comments come when Guam's SKIP Entertainment
Company just took 1st place in a dance competition in Canada, competing
against hundreds of dance teams. The Guam Visitors Bureau meanwhile issued a
statement, saying it's unfortunate that Stern made these comments but "we invite
him to come to Guam and experience who we are
and what we have to offer."
