Guam gets moving with Zumba

Guam – Zumba has taken over the island with several forms of Zumba being offered island wide. Currently there are Aqua Zumba, Zumba Toning, and Zumbatomick. Some of the benefits of Zumba are that it helps battle diabetes and high blood pressure. The non-stop movement also increases blood flow through the heart and is a great way to get in shape.

Rocio Sakai, a Zumba instructor, told KUAM Sports, "Zumba is to have fun. It is a cardio fitness class just like aerobic classes but mixed with dance. So everybody and anybody can attend these classes and do these classes because it is easy. As long as you hear the music and feel it you start moving around. Our concept behind it is to move people around and keep them moving. As long as you are moving and having fun and enjoying fitness. They don't know they are doing fitness. Some of them think it's dancing and having a party and having fun, but they are doing fitness."

Zumba lovers will get a chance to come together this Friday at 8:00 pm when a Zumba flash mob will hit the streets of Tumon. The flash mob will take place at the Plaza, right in front of Hard Rock Café. For more info on the flash mob check out the Guam Zumba Lovers page on facebook.

Antonette Mendoza added, "The Zumba flash mob is something that has actually been thought about a while ago and it's just now coming into action and coming together now. On May 25th in Tumon we've come up with a nice routine for the people of Guam to show case what Guam Zumba Lovers is all about. There are a lot of people on island that don't really know what Zumba is about so it's like a little preview to show all of Guam and the world the reason why Zumba is very important to us and our lives while promoting positive healthy fitness."
