Guam - It took 5 sets for the George Washington Gecko's to be
crowned boys high school volleyball champions. The Gecko's faced a very tough
Okkodo Bulldog team that entered the game losing the 2 previous matches between
the schools.
With both
teams heading into the title game of the double elimination format of play the
Bulldogs had to beat the Gecko's twice to dethrone the defending champs. Okkodo
set up the second match after handing the Gecko's their first loss 25-23,
21-25, 25-23. After a timeout the Geckos looked composed and ready to get the
final match underway. G.W jumped out to an early lead and never looked back
taking the first set 25-16.
GW rode the
momentum of the first set and took the 2nd set 25-21 for this year's title, for
their back-to-back championship trophy.
