Guam - In
boy's high school volleyball the undefeated George Washington Geckos met up
with the number 2 seed Okkodo Bulldogs at the F.D Phoenix
Center. Okkodo led 13-10
midway through the first set when Lester Mariano put down a kill to bring the
crowd alive.
GW kept Okkodo
in the match after several shots landed out of bounds.The Buldogs were up 20-18
late in the set but lost that lead when Mariano put down another ace, his 4th of
the set to give G.W the lead 22-22 forcing the Bulldogs to call a timeout and
talk things over. Maks Kepwe put down a shot after the timeout to tie the game
at 22. Devin Maluwelmeng gave the Geckos back the lead off a monster kill that
switched the momentum of the game in G-Dub's favor as they took the set 25-22.
In the 2nd set
Maks Kepwe got things started with a kill to give Okkodo the 1-0 lead. Kepwe
put down another shot a couple of serves later to put the Bulldogs up 5-2.
Okkodo kept the lead until the Geckos tied the game at 17 on a shot that sailed
out of bounds from Okkodo. G.W finally saw their first lead of the set scoring
2 straight points to lead 19-17.
GW went on to
take the set 25-22 for the 2 set win advancing to the title game to defend their
title.
