GFA National Academy holds youth tryouts

Posted: Updated:

Guam - In an effort to strengthen Guam's national soccer program and increase its international success, newly appointed Guam Football Association technical director and national team head coach Gary White will be creating a National Academy for youth players. "I can say that if a player is committed starting from the Under-8 age group and is consistent up until the Under-17 age group, that player will get a scholarship to play soccer in college at the minimum," White said in an interview following his recent appointment to the GFA.

All youth soccer players – both boys and girls – between the ages of six and 12 are eligible to try out for the academy. The deadline to register is March 10. There is a one-time registration fee of $45 per child to join the tryouts for the National Academy. National Academy tryout application forms are available at the GFA office in Harmon or on the GFA Web site, www.guamfootball.com in the Downloadable Items section of the home page. The GFA office is open Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and also on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Registered players below the age of eight are welcome to join the National Academy tryouts on March 17 at 5:15 p.m. At 7:15 p.m. that same evening, White will facilitate the tryouts for players below the age of 10. Registered players below the age of 12 will have separate tryouts on March 19 from 5 p.m. All tryouts will be held at the GFA facility in Harmon. All registered youth players will be required to bring cleats, shin guards, water and a soccer ball. Check in time is 30 minutes prior to the start of the tryout session.
