Writ in place against Matt Rector

Guam - Carol Somerfleck may finally be seeing progress with her writ of mandate against Guam Federation of Teachers. Somerfleck claims president Matt Rector continually fails to give all members ten working days to review changes to the constitution as well as fails to have amendment changes be approved by two-thirds of the entire membership.

Attorney Daniel Somerfleck said, "They basically tried to argue that federal law should apply over local law particularly when it deals with a non-profit organization. The court kept our writ in place after the hearing today, so it's looking positive."

At today's hearing, Judge Lamorena kept the writ in place despite rector's motion to recuse Carol's attorney, Daniel, from the case due to conflict because he once represented the union. Somerfleck also filed a complaint with the U.S. Department of Labor last year, claiming she garnered more votes than rector for president.

Current GFT elections for union chairs are ongoing and a re-election for union president will be scheduled before May 15.
