Guam - Although there are other pressing issues at John F.
Kennedy High School that need attention, the school's administration learned
recently that a fenced gate at its Ramsey Football Field had been removed and
demolished without any notification.
According to JFK assistant principal Hannah Gutierrez,
despite having weekly meetings with its contractor, International Bridge
Corporation, they had never notified the school of demolition plans.
"Our concern for JFK is that we use it for two reasons: for
student safety during instructional time so students don't roam around campus
up there, skip or get hurt or do anything like that; our second concern is that
it's well known that JFK is used for weekend or night events and we hope to
open that up to the public soon, and now with the gate not being there it's a
concern because people can just roam the campus," said Gutierrez.
She adds the Department of Public Works had notified JFK
High administration that the demolition of the fence was not part of any
construction permit drawings from the contract. Meanwhile, it cost over $70
million to build JFK, and it remains unfinished since opening last year.
