Guam - The Port Authority of
Guam's board of directors held a special meeting today to greet and officially
appoint its new general manager and former Guam International Airport Authority's
executive manager Mary Torres and bid a farewell to the former general manager
and incoming director of the Guam Customs and Quarantine Agency, Pedro Leon
Guerrero.
Leon Guerrero says he enjoyed his year's stint as GM at the Port
and hopes to continue to work in collaboration with the Port through Customs to
ensure containers go out in a timely manner. "What I want to learn is
exactly what they do, I want to learn what there needs are and I've been
talking to them with a few ideas, but I want to just meet all the officers of
Customs and see what the needs are and do my best to support it," he said.
Torres meanwhile looks forward to continuing the projects at
the Port, namely the Port Modernization Program and feels privileged to run the
agency. She told KUAM News, "I had a very good experience at the airport
moving some very contentious projects forward, and I hope as we go into the
modernization and also upgrading the facilities at the Port Authority, that I
can be as effective in whatever way that I can bring to the table."
Torres was at the airport for over three years. Taking over
as her successor is longtime Civil Defense administrator Chuck Ada.
