Guam - The search for the Department
of Education superintendent continues. The Guam Education Board made a
unanimous vote Friday morning to extend the deadline to March 16 after January's
deadline yielded six candidates, but only one complete application. According
to superintendent search chairperson Dr. Paul Pineda, all previous applicants,
including those from last year, will be contacted to see if they are still
interested in the position and a final three will be chosen from that pool.
Although GEB member Joe San Agustin motioned to have Governor
Eddie Calvo's education liaison, Vince Leon Guerrero, act as the interim
superintendent, the motion failed to pass due to possible conflicts, as he too
is a past superintendent hopeful. Taling Taitano continues her duties as interim
superintendent.
The next Guam Education Board meeting is set for February 29
at Machanaonao Elementary School.
