Guam - As Governor Eddie Calvo mentioned in the his second State
of the Island Address, the Guam Memorial Hospital will soon be implementing
austerity measures to help reduce operational expenses. Interim GMH administrator Rey Vega says
cutting back includes not filling 164 vacant positions for the year. Additionally,
GMH fully intends to implement a 32-hour workweek for administrative personnel.
Vega said, "I would like to ensure the community that
the reduction in the hours the 32-hour workweek will not affect positions that
are directly affecting patient care 2:36 we're just looking at personnel
support."
When asked if GMH would be issuing notices to those
employees who will be affected, Vega says officials are still reviewing the rules
but he doesn't believe 60-day notice is required for the reduced workweek. Officials meanwhile are also closely monitoring
overtime to see additional cost savings.
