Guam - The Guam State
Clearing House is pursuing a $9 million U.S. Department of Interior
Consolidated grant for the island's law enforcement agencies. Public safety
advisor Eric Palacios says the funds will first be used to help fix the
deficiencies at the Department of Corrections, specifically the problems listed
in DepCorr's stipulated order with the federal court.
"Right now, the consolidated packet is still be
reviewed by USDOI and so we are just waiting on feedback from them, I know that
at the beginning of fiscal year they were operating under continuing
resolutions so awards could be made and the CR has recently been lifted so we
are hopeful we will get a lot of funding," he said.
Palacios adds his office is seeking millions more in grant
funding to purchase equipment and supplies for the various law enforcement
agencies.
