Guam - The career and technical education summit "Imagine: Careers Through Education" is set to take place this week. According to Senator Sam Mabini, Guam's students need to be equipped with skills like communication and critical thinking to survive life post-graduation.
She told KUAM News, "These are some of the concerns that we've received from our employers as far as the new employees they're receiving. They may be hardworking but they may be lacking some of these skills, and through our school system we should be able to start preparing them when they're in school."
The summit is part of National Career and Technical Education Month and in collaboration with Governor Eddie Calvo's "Classrooms to Careers" initiative. Nationally recognized keynote speakers will include Dr. Frankie Santos Lanaan, a former president of the Association of Career and Technical Education Research, and Dr. Janice Friedel, associate professor administrator for the Division of Community Colleges and Workforce Preparation at the Iowa Department of Education.
The summit is set for February 16-18 at the Guam Community College. To register, visit www.senatormabini.com or call 478-4726.
