Guam - Hoping
to move forward with the China
visa waiver program along with ensuring there is no potential threat to the Navy
on Guam, Naval Criminal Investigative Service officials
were on island to meet with island leaders this week.
Although the NCIS
officials from Washington, DC,
San Diego and Hawaii were not at liberty to discuss
specific details, Speaker Judi Won Pat noted that the biggest task at hand is
coming up with a mitigation plan before any decision is actually made regarding
the visa waiver program. "They were saying that this is doable and they
were leaning towards it but of course the government showed that they do
everything to find out what the potential problems and threats and how it could
be mitigated," she recalled.
Won Pat adds
lawmakers were pleased of the opportunity to raise their concerns and hope to
hear an update from the NCIS soon.
