Guam - Football was a sport the late Eddie Calvo held close to heart. When it came to the National Football League, he was a super fan. Whether it was donning the red and gold in support of his beloved 49ers, challenging anyone who was up to it to a game of madden, or traveling to various destinations across the country annually to attend the Super Bowl, if there were a NFL Fan Hall of Fame, he would have certainly been inducted years ago!
And though his beloved Niners' Super Bowl dreams were cut short by a field goal this year, the Edward M. Calvo Cancer Foundation is throwing a very special benefit to commemorate this super fan and to raise money in support of his memorial foundation. Eddie's son Joey spoke about the upcoming Big Game Bash Benefit, saying, "It's a big fundraising for the Edward M. Calvo Cancer Foundation and it's a great game. My dad was really into football."
Eddie's Super Monday Big Game Bash is taking place at Ralphy's in Hagatna on February 6 with doors opening at 6am. Tickets are $50 and include an all-you-can-eat breakfast and lunch buffet, plus endless drinks, and prize giveaways. Eddie's youngest son Leonard said, "We're gonna have Miller Beer on special and we're going to have an awesome buffet with a pancake station and scrambled eggs and a roast pig. Everything football fans want to eat for breakfast or brunch...it'll be there!"
More than just a screening party, one hundred percent of the proceeds from this event benefit the Edward M. Calvo Cancer Foundation. Since it's founding in 2004 Eddie Calvo's passing, the foundation has provided over $1,000,000 in financial assistance to thousands of cancer patients on Guam. This support for local cancer patients has only been possible through the generosity of community donors.
Joey added, "What we've found is that the number of applicants is increasing every month and we want to be able to support all the cancer patients on Guam."
So if you're looking for a festive way to spend your Super Monday and want to support a good cause, this is one event you'll want to attend. Open to adults only, tickets are available in advance at the KUAM Studios in Harmon or the EMC Foundation office located on the 2nd floor of the Cup and Saucer Building in Hagatna.
"We'd like to invite all the football fans out there, if you haven't decided where you're going to watch the game, come down to Ralphy's on Monday," said Leonard. "There'll be good food, drinks, and you'll be helping a very worthwhile cause."
