Guam - To deter crime on campus, Speaker Judi Won Pat has introduced Bill 412, which would enable the Guam Police Department and Department of Education superintendent to recruit volunteers to patrol school grounds after hours to report suspicious activity or crimes in progress. According to DOE interim superintendent Taling Taitano, this would be an addition to the five school resource officers waiting to start their assignments at the island's five public high schools.
Taitano says USDOE has already given positive feedback and anticipates the program's approval later this week. The five SROs will not be armed when they finally start.
