Guam – The Guam Fire Department is getting an additional ambulance added to its fleet next week. The unit was given to the General Services Agency by the military, and the purchase of a second unit is pending approval of funding. The ambulance transfer was only made possible after the administration paid off prior 2010 debts to the federal GSA. GFD purchased the used Ford F350 Chassis type 1 ambulance for $11,000, according to a news release from the Governor's Office. This means GFD will have 8 operational ambulances, which the administration states haven't occurred in over four years.
Governor Eddie Calvo states, "Emergency medical care is a top priority. We will continue this progress and make sure our island residents receive proper and timely emergency medical care."
Lt. Governor Ray Tenorio adds, "Governor Calvo and I have been committed to improving the emergency medical response for our island. We would like to thank all the hard working staff at GSA and GFD for diligently working to make this transfer possible."
