Guam - Last year there were a reported 1,500 unsheltered homeless individuals on Guam. GHURA planner Amor Say says an additional 248 additional homeless people were counted who live in shelters. The Guam Homeless Coalition will conduct another count later this month as they work with island mayors to identify other areas where the homeless may be seeking shelter.
"We usually do an assessment and use the numbers for the different grants we do to obtain federal funds," she said. She adds most of the homeless counted are from the FSM. The count begins on January 27.
