Guam - The island mayor's are working to complete training so they can have the authority to issue citations to anyone caught illegally dumping around the island. Mayor's Council of Guam president mayor Melissa Savares says they are working with the local court to complete full eight hours of training.
"It's a matter of setting up with their schedule, of course there are some police officers with GPD that it part of the training so once those individuals are ready and then they just let us know what dates we can come as a group," she said.
She says Guam law recognizes the mayor's as peace officers, and her colleagues are looking forward to curb the growing problem of illegal dumping and littering.
