GFD issues notice after UMS inspection

Guam - The Guam Fire Department issued a Notice of Hazard following an inspection at Untalan Middle School this morning. UMS assistant principal Valerie Kaipat tells KUAM News GFD found similar problems cited by Department of Public Health inspectors on Thursday including leakage, issues with electrical panels, and the fire alarm system.

She says although the notice wouldn't close a school it still is worth raising concern. She still is unsure of when school will reopen and whether it will be in Barrigada campus or Tiyan. While teachers and students were out, twelve-month staffers were on hand still planning for the move and were tagging equipment. She said prior to yesterdays and today's inspection, DPHSS last did an inspection in November 2010, and GFD in August of last year.

She says many of the citations were repeat violations.
