Guam - With the generosity of the local community, the Filipino Community of Guam has raised thousands of dollars for its Typhoon Sendong relief efforts. Today the United Chinese Association of Guam and the Chinese Ladies' Association of Guam presented a check for $6,000, bringing the total collection to $33,000.

Albert Wu told KUAM News, "We humble pray for everyone's safety who are to carry out this lead mission to distressed areas in the Southern Philippines. We mourn for the death of the victims of the tragic disaster and we continue to pray for the survived Filipino families who lost their homes and get back on their feet again."

The death toll is close to 700 and authorities fear that there are hundreds more as recovery efforts continue in Mindanao, the second-largest island in the country.
