Guam - As island residents ring in the New Year at various celebrations around the island, the Guam Police Department will be out conducting DUI checkpoints and roving enforcement to ensure residents aren't drinking under the influence.  Police will also be patrolling the villages in both marked and unmarked vehicles looking for those who are shooting weapons into the air and using homemade canons and noise makers.

GPD warns that these items are not only dangerous but illegal.  Parents can be held liable if a minor is injured or killed while playing with the items. Additionally, Attorney General Leonardo Rapadas warns the public that unlawful discharge of a firearm is a misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail and a $1,000 fine.
