Guam - The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has awarded Guam $879,000 in federal grants to provide shelter for the homeless. GHURA will be able to utilize the funding for its Guma Hinemlo' program, which provides a safe, supportive living environment for residents; the Aftercare Housing Program, a tenant-based shelter plus care housing voucher program for homeless men with disabilities; and the agency's Housing First Rental Assistance Program.
Funding was also provided for other support services. Congresswoman Madeleine Bordallo says the funding will not only provide assistance for the island's public housing programs, but will also help support individuals as they seek self-sufficiency.
