Guam - The 4th Annual Girls JV Hoopfest Basketball
Post-Season Tournament will tip off tomorrow morning at the St. John's Gym. 9 of the 11 high school teams
will be participating in the event, which will be a double elimination format
of play.
Geraldine Billeran, the event organizer, said, "This is
our 4th Annual Post Season Girls Basketball Tournament and it's for the JV
division to give them a little extension to their season. It's going to give
them more playing time and help them develop their skills and it would really
give them that experience they need to get to the next level, which is varsity.
It's also a good time for them to develop and it's also another main reason why
we have it because it's a foundation for the women's basketball program here on
island."
With the generosity of the MSOA and St. John's the tournament was able to still
go on despite not having any sponsors. The J.F.K JV girl's team has fund raised
to help with the cause and will make their opening game debut against the St.
Paul Warriors at 9:00 am.
Billeran added, "Unfortunately we weren't able to have
any sponsors this year but our JV team is working really hard to put it
together and a lot of the tournament was made possible by the MSOA Officials.
The referees who volunteered their time. They have volunteered their time 4
consecutive years and I know they do it as a community outreach so I would like
to thank them for giving back to the cause.
"And St.
John's Gym as well they are allowing us to use their
venue through out the whole entire tournament."
